Game rules
Iuno Avatar
Iuno Avatar can be played with 2-3 players per card deck.
The game consists of 6 dies, 54 cards per deck and 30 gems as game components.
Players can use dies to perform actions, e.g. in order to play cards and need to pay the cost of each card in gems.

Dies
Dies are used to perform actions, e.g. to play cards or to activate and level up figure cards.
Cards
Cards are used to play effects.
A player wins the game, when they have no cards left in hand.
Gems
Gems are used to pay for cards and to activate and level up figure cards.
Card types
The deck of the basic version breaks down into three card types: 18 figure cards, 18 spell cards and
18 gem cards. Figure and spell cards come with a cost and can bring an effect,
whereas gem cards can be used to pay for other cards,
Figure (card)
Figures cards typically bring permanent effects, which
are into effect when the
figure card is active.
Spell (card)
Spell cards typically bring
one time effects, which immediately come into effect upon arrival.
Gem (card)
Gem cards can be used
to pay for spell or figure cards, when their element matches the element of the played card.
Effects on cards are visualised with pictograms.
Pictograms exist for game areas, game components, card types and operators.
White pictograms represent game areas, game components or card types of the player, whilst black pictograms
represent game areas, game components or card types of an opponent chosen by the player.

Spell cards bring one time effects, while figure cards can bring inclusive or exclusive permanent effects.
With inclusive effects (represented by a circle), a specific activity triggers another activity, which is happening additionally to the first activity; with exclusive effects (represented by a rhombus), a specific activity is
replaced by another activity. Players can always choose whether they want a specific effect to take place or not.
Operators
Operators structure the effects of spell and figure cards
by connecting game areas, game components and card types
leading to comprehensive effect descriptions.
take
Located before a game component. Allows the player
to take a specific game component.
move
Located in between two game areas. Allows the player to move
a specific game component/card
from one game area to the other.
discard
Located after a game component. Allows the player
to discard a specific game component.
Effects of cards an be combined with each other, i.e. the effect of one card can trigger the effect of another.
Effect loops within the same effect sequence are not further executed, i.e. an effect of a card doesn't again trigger the same effect or an effect of a card that had already triggered before within the same effect sequence.
Playing Iuno
Iuno covers three game areas, across which cards get moved throughout the game.
In the middle of the table the six dies are placed, which the players use to perform actions,
the card stack, from which players take cards, and a purse of gems, from which players take gems.
Heaven
The cards in a players hand. Players can play cards
from Heaven.
Earth
The cards in front of a player. Whenever a card is played,
it is put on Earth.
Hell
The cards in the middle of the table. Whenever a card leaves Earth, it is sent to Hell.
Before the game every player receives three gems and six cards in Heaven. Six cards are placed in Hell face up. The players play turn by turn. In the beginning of each turn, a player first takes

a die
a card
a gem

If there would be no dies or gems left in the middle of the table, the player can take a die or gem from the players with the most dies/gems. If there are no cards left in the card stack, Hell gets shuffled and replaces the stack face down.

The player can then roll and discard their dies to perform actions:
-
If the rolled number exceeds the number of figures on Earth, they can summon a figure card by paying its cost and moving it from Heaven to Earth
-
If the rolled number exceeds the number of spells already casted this turn, they can cast a spell card by paying its cost and moving it from Heaven to Earth
-
If the rolled number exceeds the number of gems on top of a certain figure on Earth, they can activate/level up this figure by moving a(nother) gem on top of it

Discarded dies are put back in the middle of the table. An action needs to be finished, before the player can play another one (in case they would have more than one die available); effects of several actions can therefore not be combined.

Figure and spell cards can be paid in either combination of gems and gem cards, whereas gems can be utilised to pay for any element and gem cards have to match the elements of the cost of the played card.
The amount of paid gems plus the element symbols on the utilised gem cards have to match the cost of the played figure or gem card, i.e. players must not overpay.

Effects of figure cards are in effect when the figure card is active with at least one gem on top of it. Figure cards can be leveled up with at most as many gems as their level.
Effects of spell cards immediately come into effect once the spell card arrives on Earth. Figure cards stay on Earth permanently, whereas spell cards are moved to Hell after their effect has been completed. If a player controls more than six figure cards on Earth, all are moved to Hell.

In the end of each turn, each player must discard

all remaining dies
all but six cards
all but six gems

A player wins the game as soon as they have no more cards in Heaven.

The extensions Iuno Zodiac and Iuno Artifact add additional rules to the game.
